Types of HPV

HPV viruses can be divided into two categories based on their carcinogenicity, "low risk" and "high risk":
"Low risk": HPV types in this category are generally less likely to cause precancerous lesions.
Low risk HPV types: 6,11,40, 42, 43, 44, 54, 61, 70, 72, 81
The most common HPV types that cause condyloma acuminatum (also known as cauliflower or venereal warts) are types 6 and 11.
"High risk": HPV types in this category have the potential to cause precancerous lesions and subsequently cancer (e.g. cervical cancer, anal cancer, penile cancer, oral cancer, etc.).
High-risk HPV types: HPV16, 18, 31,33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68, 73, 82
The most common HPV types that cause cervical cancer are types 16 and 18. These two HPV types account for 70% or more of all cervical cancer cases.
